SPK Wins Sustainability Award

On Friday 6 November 2015 our kinder was announced as the winner of the City of Boroondara Sustainable Kinder of the Year!

The Awards recognise the program initiatives and activities established by Boroondara schools and students – and this year’s inclusion of a special category for kindergartens.

SPK has been awarded for its commitment to sustainability throughout the kinder, and in particular the whole of water cycle management approach developed as part of the rain garden, natural play space and drinking fountain projects undertaken in 2014-15 at the kinder.

Grants Office Suzie Hotchin, the co-ordinator (and sometime builder!) of our fabulous water-friendly play spaces, was on hand to accept the award with Megan Bennet (Yellow Group Teacher) and Denise Taylor (Blue Group Assistant) from ABC media personality Costa Georgiadis and Captain Smogbuster.

“We are very proud of our sustainability measures, many of which would not have happened if it weren’t for the efforts our fantastic teachers – in particular, Megan and Denise, who have long championed sustainability at SPK – and some very dedicated parent volunteers, without whom our recent projects would never have been completed.” - Suzie

Congratulations to Suzie and the teaching team for the consultative process used to develop the plans for our amazing rain garden and natural play space, and their ongoing efforts to maintain a sustainable work and play environment for our kinder children.
